Asus MeMO Pad HD 7 launched as affordable Android tab

Asus has launched the 7-inch Asus MeMO Pad HD 7 as an Android tablet with a very low price tag, alongside the Asus MeMO Pad FHD 10.

The Taiwanese manufacturer now has two new tablets to bring into the Android slate war. The Asus MeMO Pad HD 7 will bear a super-low $129 (£84.50) price tag for an 8GB model, while the Asus MeMO Pad FHD 10 includes a powerful AMD processor.

Although Asus has yet to announce any UK pricing or availability, the MeMO Pad HD 7 could be a strong rival for the Google Nexus 7 tablet in terms of power and affordability.

Asus MeMO Pad HD7 Features

Priced at $129 (£84.50) for 8GB or $149 (£97.65) for 16GB, the affordability of the Asus MeMO Pad HD7 will certainly be one of its key selling points.

Thankfully though, the specs sheet seems to make the price point even more appealing. The Asus MeMO Pad HD 7 has a 7-inch 1280 x 800p HD screen, the same as the Google Nexus 7. It also packs a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera with 5-megapixels in the rear.

Processor-wise it packs a low-energy ARM Cortex A7 quad-core chip, and also has a microSD card slot and a micro-USB socket. Running Android 4.0, it does run a rather dated version of Google’s mobile OS, though that could change come launch.

Available in four colours – black, white, pink and yellow – the Asus MeMO Pad HD 7 is 10.8mm thick and weighs 302g.

Asus MeMO Pad FHD10 Features

The Asus MeMO Pad FHD 10 packs a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 processor and a 10-inch Full 1920 x 1200p HD IPS display. The screen also offers 178-degree viewing angles.

Shipping in Royal Blue, Silk White and Vivid Pink, the Asus MeMO Pad FHD 10 is 9.5mm thick and weighs 580g. It packs the same camera specs as its 7-inch little brother, and is capable of recording 1080p videos.

Also available with 16GB or 32GB of storage and a microSD card slot, Asus hasn’t released any pricing details for the 10-inch MeMO Pad.
